Fri, Aug 1 1997 - International Folk Festival, Sidmouth

Contrary to popular rumour the Newcastle Cloggies were not actually washed away during the great floods of Sidmouth between the 1st and 8th of August 1997. Despite wading through overflowing rivers and performing amid a sea of mud (of a liquid consistency rare to behold) the show had to go on and we are proud to say that we kept going throughout. Step Me a Story - a unique performance of stories told by Pat Ryan and illustrated by the Newcastle Cloggies dancing, at the Manor Pavilion was a great hit.

Sun, May 18 1997 - University Boat Race, Newcastle

The weather was fair, the crowds were great, but - trying to dance on roughened flags was nearly impossible and no fun. Another time can we have a stage please!

Fri, May 9 1997 - Clog at the Pier, Wigan

Between the 9th and 11th May in Wigan, this was a new event to most of the Cloggies, but one which we all enjoyed. We were offered two narrow boats as accomodation. These were sited right in the middle of the Pier complex making access to events (through the rain) very easy. The workshops went well, everyone enjoyed the dancing out (including the children) and a good, relaxing time was had by all

Fri, Apr 25 1997 - Newcastle Cloggies Weekend of Dance

This was a major undertaking - starting a weekend of dance again after a gap of five (or was it eight!) years. To sum it up it was a lot of hard work - but worth it. In fact we enoyed it so much we are doing it again next year!

Sat, Apr 12 1997 - Spen Weekend of Dance, Gateshead Spring Flower Show

This year as usual our good friends High Spen Blue Diamond Rapper Dancers invited us to dance at their weekend of dance. We said yes not realising quite how much dancing would be involved, but on the day all went well and everyone danced their socks off. Music was provided by some of our dancing members as well as by some of our friends who help out on these occasions and the standard was high. Afterwards Spen donated £25 "for the Cloggies to have a drink on us" which we enjoyed very much over our Weekend of Dance. Dances were as follows:
- East Fife
- Hornpipe
- Buck & Wing
- Liverpool Hornpipe
- Scottish 4
- Waltz
- Westmorland 5
- Shetland 6
- Hampshire 5
